Theme Creator is a free theme maker tool that allows you to create basic Chrome themes. It offers a simple GUI using which you can easily create, save, and install custom themes in Google Chrome. It also allows you to share themes online.
How to create your own Chrome Theme
Open Google Chrome Theme Creator in the Chrome Web Store. Click on the Visit Website button. You will be taken to the themebeta.com web app page, where you will see theme creation tools on the left-hand side and a theme preview on the right-hand side. These tools allow you to choose a background image, choose colors and tints, and pack the theme to make it installable. Below you can see how a custom theme looks like on Chrome:
To create a theme using Theme Creator, you should follow these steps: Let us see these steps in detail.
1] Upload an image to set the theme background
On the app’s home page, enter a suitable name (45-characters long) for your theme under the Basic tab on the left. Then click on the Upload an Image button. Browse and select an image (preferably in HD) from your system, that you’d like to set as the background of the new tab page of your Google Chrome browser. You can select a PNG or JPG image, though the app recommends selecting PNG images. You will see how the browser will look with the selected image on the right side in the preview pane. You can also use settings for Background Image (located just below the preview) to change the image alignment, layout, etc. To further customize the look of the browser, you can switch to the Images tab and create an Image resource for your theme. This tab allows you to upload multiple images that can be applied to various sections of the browser, such as frame, toolbar, tab background, etc.
2] Pick colors and tints for the theme
Next, click on the Generate Colors button under the Basic tab. Theme Creator will create a color scheme based on the colors present in the image and apply it to your theme. You can also specify tints to be applied to the tab text, background tab text, control buttons, etc., by switching to the Colors tab.
3] Pack the theme for the installation
Once you’re done creating the theme, you can click on the Pack and Install button under the Basic tab. A Zip file will be downloaded on your system (If you get an error, switch to the Pack tab and click on the Pack and Download Zip File button). Extract the contents of the file into a folder. You can also rename the folder for the convenience of locating it on your system.
4] Install theme in Google Chrome
Click on the menu icon (three vertical dots) in the top-right corner of your browser window and select More tools > Extensions.
Then switch on the Developer Mode by clicking the toggle button available in the top-right corner. Then on the top-left corner, click on the Load unpacked button. Browse and select the theme folder. The theme will be applied instantly. To switch back to the default Chrome theme, go to Menu > Settings > Appearance, and then click on the Reset to default button next to the Theme option.
This is how you can create and customize your own Chrome themes. Hope you find this useful.
