Convert SVG icons to Shapes using Word
Multiple options and variations are available that you can try to customize how your SVG image looks in your document. To access those tools, Open Microsoft Word and click the ‘Insert’ tab. Next, choose ‘icons’ from the list of options as shown in the screenshot below.
Thereafter, choose the desired image from a section. By default, the gallery offers a collection of pre-defined styles for converting your image to a line drawing or changing the fill color of it. In the example below I’ve inserted a logo (books) and the original is all black and single colored.
There’s a new button in the ‘Format’ tab – ‘Convert to Shape’ which allows you to separate single element into its multiple components. So, if required, you can label or color them individually. What you do here is simply convert an SVG image or icon to an Office shape so that you can disassemble the SVG file and edit it the way you like.
Please note that this feature (Convert Shapes) is currently available only in Microsoft Office 2016 on Windows. The feature has not been rolled out for Office on Android or Office Mobile on Windows 10. Also, if you are an Office 365 subscriber and still do not find this feature, make sure you have the latest version of Office Installed.
